Frequently Asked Questions

What is the main language in Iceland? Is it travel friendly?

  • They are very fluent in a few languages. The main one being English and Icelandic. This makes it even easier to Navigate around and get to know the locals. Everyone we met was extremely friendly and were really intrigued we were from America. They asked us many questions about our language, culture, food, and politics which was pretty cool that they were so interested.

How was the food?

  • No exaggeration, the food was amazing!!! Everywhere we went had great food. Seafood is rally popular, and very fresh, they had lamb option at most restaurants. Steps away from the hotel we are staying at, had delicious street food. Iceland is known for their hotdogs, so of course we had to try it, and we weren't let down in the slightest bit.

  • Food is very expensive. Like $10 bucks for a standard hotdog, $20 bucks for a hamburger & fries. So we recommend packing some snacks to save some coins if you want.

What is the weather like in October?

  • The average temperature is about 36°-44° F and October in Iceland brings us about 8-11 hours of daylight. October is the month we start seeing some single digit temperatures again, which are often followed by some heavy rain. Despite this, October continues to be a month people love to visit Iceland in. This is partially due to the Northern Lights, and the fall colors.  Icelanders celebrate the first day of winter in late October.  Even so, you aren’t likely to see any snow until  next month, especially not in Reykjavík.

  • Pro Tip: Umbrellas are useless in Iceland, it is too windy!  Pack the raincoat instead.
